Introducing Canadian artist – singer songwriter Allyson Whitmell, who released her debut UK single on 17th January via EMU Bands. Allyson’s songwriting includes elements of pop, jazz, and musical theatre with a cinematic flare, as if Sara Bareilles, Laufey and Lizzy McAlpine had merged together. The through line in Allyson’s music is her intimate yet powerful voice, her piano arrangements, and an emphasis on capturing vivid moments in time.

"That moment in time when you say goodbye to a place close to your heart is what I set out to capture in Crack in my Window. The nostalgia, the grief, the gratitude. They say it's the little things that really get you - I had a window where I once lived that was nearly impossible to close all the way, and I wrote this song thinking about how something so small and seemingly insignificant could be so missed. In order to create a yearning, nostalgic quality, I wanted to feature strings with an emphasis on solo violin alongside my piano arrangement. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Jono Hill of Bridgerton fame to capture this feeling, and Ben Pelchat brought it home with fantastic production and sound design. My hope is that this song resonates with anyone who has been or is currently in the process of moving on from something, someplace, or even someone.” ALLYSON WHITMELL

Allyson graduated from the University of Toronto in Piano Performance and Composition in 2023 and is an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music in both Piano and Voice. Alongside her singer-songwriter career, she is currently completing her Master’s degree at the University of Toronto in Applied Music and Health, studying Neurologic Music Therapy. Her personal interests: historical fiction novels, tennis, Pilates, running, 90s movies and making pasta dishes.
