Jack White successfully plays first vinyl record in space

Jack White has overseen the first play of a vinyl record in space.

The musician and his label Third Man Records launched a record of astronomer Carl Sagan explaining the cosmos into the air in early July.

It rose 28,000 metres on a weather balloon into space before it burst at the weekend and came back to earth.

The stunt was launched to celebrate the seventh anniversary of Third Man Records.

White commented: "It brings us great fulfilment to pay tribute to the incredible scientist and dreamer that Carl Sagan was.

"We hope that in meeting our goal we inspire others to dream big and start their own missions, whatever they may be."

The record was also the three millionth vinyl pressed so far by Third Man.
