James Arthur hopes One Direction fans have forgiven him after rant

James Arthur says he hopes he has forgiveness from One Direction fans after speaking out about the band in 2013.

The X Factor 2012 winner stirred controversy by reportedly messaging a Twitter user who had made reference to One Direction's huge sales figures and called him "s**t".

Arthur then seemingly wrote in a direct message: "What the f*ck is your problem! Why don't you go and invest in a life instead of posting hate on Twitter you sad f*cking idiot. And One Direction don't sell records, they are a marketing product. They [sell] t-shirts and dolls you moron. Let's see you eat your words in time. Loser."

The former X Factor star meanwhile also said that One Direction's Louis Tomlinson had been a "little b*tch" towards him.

Speaking on Twitter today (January 5), Arthur said that he was simply going through a bad patch and hopes that One Direction fans forgive him.

He wrote: "Hoping some of the @onedirection fans have forgiven me for being an idiot a couple years back after my cover of and a big fat sorry! I went crazy is all lol."

Arthur added to a fan: "I was going through a rough spot...I was having an argument with one fan that escalated...I've never disliked the band."
