Jennifer Hudson: 'Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey feud was staged for ratings'

Former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson has weighed in on the tension between new judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj and insists it's purely to boost ratings.

Footage recently emerged of the two new panelists embroiled in a heated argument and there appears to have been a lot of tension building between the female superstars, but Hudson thinks it may have been staged for the benefit of entertainment and pulling in viewers.

She told TMZ: "I don't believe it. I think it's just for ratings for the show."

The leaked video of the pair arguing caused such a stir that even President Barack Obama put his two cents in and explained that despite the obvious clashing of personalities he believes they can make amends:

"I think that they are going to be able to sort it out, I am confident. I'm all about bringing people together, working for the same cause, I think both outstanding artists are going to be able to make sure that they're moving forward and not going backwards."
