Kate Bush appointed CBE

Iconic star Kate Bush is "delighted" to have been recognised in the New Year's Honours list.

The distinctive singer-songwriter feels surprised to be receiving a CBE (Commander of the Order of British Empire) for her services to the music industry, but is thrilled with the accolade nonetheless.

The 54-year-old gushed: "I feel deeply honoured to be included in this list. It's a great surprise and I'm really delighted. Thanks to everyone who's encouraged and supported my work over the years."

Bush is best known for her chart-topping hit 'Wuthering Heights' and has kept out of the spotlight for much of the past two decades.

Former Strictly Come Dancing judge and choreographer Arlene Phillips will also receive a CBE and gushed about the prestigious award: "I am very pleasantly surprised but mostly absolutely thrilled and delighted to receive such a wonderful honour."

Phillips has worked on a whole host of music videos in her time including promos for Robbie Williams, Whitney Houston, AC/DC, the Bee Gees and Aretha Franklin.

Sir Paul McCartney's designer daughter Stella has also been recognised in the list.

The British star has been awarded an OBE after being named Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards earlier this year.
