Lorde's mother: 'I was dumbfounded when she won 2 GRAMMYs'

Sonja Yelich, mother to 'Team' songstress Lorde, has spoken out about her daughter's success at last night's GRAMMY Awards (January 26) in Los Angeles.

The talented youngster picked up two awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year, at the 2014 GRAMMYs and her family are clearly incredibly proud of the incredible achievements.

Her mother told Radio New Zealand that as a parent, she was overwhelmed when Lorde won the prizes at the ceremony: "As a mum, when I sat there, I was in shock. You feel a bit dumbfounded when you hear your daughter's name called out amongst such company."

The 'Buzzcut Season' star's father, Vic O'Connor, added: As Sonja said, we were both very shocked but also very thrilled. She's a very calm person, she handles these things extremely well."

Lorde's mother went on to admit that while her upbringing will be anything but conventional, she is proud that her daughter is on such a great path: "Clearly she's not going to be going back to school, but Ella's chosen a career... that stimulates her intelligence, and she's involved in every single decision-making process. That requires fortitude and intelligence and we're very pleased."
