Lorde on being dubbed the 'voice of a generation': 'People will read that and want me to f**k off'

New Zealand based songstress Lorde has opened up about the constant praise that is thrown her way and explained that while it's nice, she doesn't want the public to think she's getting ahead of herself.

Speaking to V magazine for its new issue, which will hit newsstands on February 27, she admitted that being called 'the voice of a generation' and 'the Nirvana of now' is lovely, but will only wind people up: "Oh, come on! I’m sure so many people will read that and be like, ‘F**k off!’”

Lorde also added that she prefers the company of older people who are intellectually stimulating: "I’ve always hung out with people older than me, with my parents’ friends, because I appreciated the conversation. And even now, although I have heaps of friends in high school, I also hang out with a lot of older people. And sometimes with them I’m like, ‘God, this is boring!’"

Despite feeling more at home around people years ahead of her, she confessed that getting to meet other music stars and have one-on-one conversations with them is amazing and often inspires her: "But it means that I get to have these stimulating encounters with people that I idolize, which is cool."
