Lorde has responded with humour after learning that the Westboro Baptist Church plan to picket one of her upcoming gigs.

The Church, who infamously picket funerals and protest against homosexuality, are due to make their presence felt at the singer's gig in Kansas City on Friday (March 21).

They wrote on their website: "New Zealand came forth with a young lassie that doesn't have enough sense to put in a thimble. Now the world has elevated her to the status of an idol. Then the world began to weigh in. They think this and that and blah, blah, barf."

Billboard reports that 17-year-old Lorde took it all in her stride, saying on Twitter:

"Everyone wear rainbow clothing to that show. Everyone try to kiss church members who are same sex as you they will so love it."

The tweet, however, appears to have been deleted.
