Lorde gives prize to other finalists after bagging New Zealand album award

Lorde has given money and recording time to other musicians after bagging New Zealand's Taite Music Prize.

The singer won the award, which honours the country's best album of the year, for her debut record 'Pure Heroine'.

However, she has given the prizes - $10,000 and recording time - to the six other finalists who had not previously won the award.

Lorde could not attend the ceremony and instead sent a video message.

Judge Grant Smithies commented: "Lorde's LP was a rare example of an underground pop record being so damn good, it went mainstream, not just here, but worldwide."

Some of the other finalists included Beastwars, Sheep, Dog & Wolf and David Dallas.
