Lorde on social media: 'It's eliminating the need for artists to do interviews'

New Zealand based hitmaker Lorde has revealed that she believes interviews will become a thing of the past if people keep using social media.

During an interview with British magazine Stylist, the 'Royals' songstress explained that social media is chipping away at the need for interviews because people are able to go straight to an artist's Twitter page or Instagram account and personally access exactly what they're doing, thinking, or looking at without reaching for a magazine or buying a newspaper:

"Social media means artists are able to completely skip publications ' we don't need newspapers to issue press releases anymore, we can just do it on Twitter or whatever. But it also means the papers want higher highs and to get that access which is more personal than something you've just posted on Instagram. So it also means we all have to kind of run around a bit more."

She went onto add that she enjoys being an active Twitter user and feels comfortable with the platform as she knows what to share and what to keep to herself in order to retain a sense of privacy and mystery:

"I was ten [when Twitter first appeared], so I've grown up with it. It's much more normal to me than it would be for a lot of people. I understand the importance of things like Twitter and people feeling like they know you and are emotionally invested in you as an artist and as a person. It's cool. I like being able to share things with people."
