Lorde's 'Royals' tipped for No.1 spot

New Zealand songstress Lorde is going head-to-head with 'X Factor' winner James Arthur in today's (October 23) midweek chart update.

Her debut single 'Royals' has landed the coveted No.1 position on the UK Top 40, but Arthur's 'You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You' is just behind at No.2 with only 7,000 copies separating them.

OneRepublic, meanwhile, have slipped 2 positions to No.3 with their chart-topping single 'Counting Stars', Katy Perry is up 1 to No.5 with her latest offering 'Roar', and Union J have made a respectable appearance at No.6 with 'Beautiful Life'.

Taylor Swift's 'Paul Potts' soundtrack song, 'Sweeter Than Fiction', charts at No.31 and Robin Thicke's summer anthem 'Blurred Lines' has shot up 11 places to No.22 after he performed it on 'The X Factor'.

James Arthur has launched a new competition for fans to win the chance to attend a secret show by correctly guessing a series of cryptic locations via Twitter. The event will take place "in the country" at the beginning of November.
