Lorde's 'Royals' named MTV's song of the year

Lorde's hit track 'Royals' has come top of MTV's Best Songs of 2013 list.

The music company have pooled together their thoughts on what were the best tunes of the last year and the 17-year-old New Zealander's breakthrough track has come out trumps.

They said: "She may never be 'royal', but Lorde's chart-topping single will forever be enthroned in the collective cerebral cortex of the world."

No.2 on the list is Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines', which was boosted by its nudity-themed video.

He is followed by Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' whilst Miley Cyrus's 'Wrecking Ball' is No.4 on the list.

Other notable entries in the top ten include Katy Perry's 'Roar', Zedd's 'Clarity' and Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble'.

Speaking about the latter, MTV said: "Taken from 2012's Grammy-nominated 'Red', 'Trouble' is about the regret that comes with falling hard for the wrong guy. But however bad it might've hurt, the pain paid off for Swift, who worked with pop masters Max Martin and Shellback on the rave-ready single."
