Louis Tomlinson was the first One Direction member to celebrate the band's 8th anniversary on Twitter today (July 23).

Initially, the official One Direction Twitter account sprang into action after over 6 months of silence. The account hadn't tweeted since New Year's Eve until July 20 to bring attention to the upcoming anniversary. This morning it then started to tweet out One Direction song lyrics.

Tomlinson joined in on the fun with the following tweets: 

"#8YearsOfOneDirection Where has the time gone!? Thank you so much to every single person who’s ever supported us. Big love!

Liam Payne then tweeted: "#8YearsOfOneDirection what an incredible 8 years it’s been with my brothers! Thank you to all the fans that are still supporting and following our journeys. Love LP ❤️"

This was followed by Niall Horan tweeting: "#8YearsfOneDirection Wow! 8 years of amazing memories with the lads . Thank you so much for standing by us for all this time. [sic]"

Harry Styles and Zayn haven't tweeted yet about the anniversary.

Both Payne and Tomlinson are scheduled to release their highly anticipated debut solo albums in the near future.

Tomlinson recently said in a video chat for his fans: "the album is still definitely my priority."
