China’s Alternative Soul Pop

LEAH DOU

Visits UK in MAY

For 2 Sold Out London Debut headline shows & 2 Slots at Great Escape Festival

Having supported Bastille on their World Arena tour back in 2016, Beijing born English speaking singer and Producer Leah Dou, is back visiting the UK for more shows including 2 Sold Out London debut headliners and 2 shows at Europe’s largest industry festival, The Great Escape Festival

Leah may only be 21 but has a very interesting back-story with a CV that reads like that of a veteran artist. Having already released 2 successful albums with ‘Stone Café’ 2016 (singles 'Brother''May Rain') and ‘Kids only’ 2017 with singles 'Whistlers Riddle', which racked up some impressive online numbers including 40 Million Streams. She has also secured several brand deals, won international music awards and was recently featured the face of the new Iphone in China.

Leah writes ambient electro-soul pop with story led lyrics, inventive productions and smooth vocals.  With a keen eye on style, her music is interestingly varied with many different influences and references of dreamy UK pop to the likes of Bowie, PJ Harvey, and LP done in a modern perspective. 2017 was another busy year having completed her first North America club tour (Which sold out in 24 hours), writing the theme song for animated movie “A Silent Voice” and releasing her 2nd album ‘Kids Only’ to much continued support.

Having been born into one of the most famous musical families of modern China, Leah’s relationship with music had grown inexorably deeper. Her mother Faye Wong is one of the most popular contemporary singers in Asia, while her father Dou Wei was forging his own reputation as a hip, alternative, uncompromising singer and songwriter. With parents always on tour, Leah spent many of her formative years on the move, living in Hong Kong, moving back Beijing with early school memories in Japan. Relocating to sunny LA, USA to then study song writing at Interlochen Centre for the Arts, North Michigan, US.

After writing her first song on guitar “With You” at an early she began uploading further original songs online, including “Blue Flamingo”, which quickly captured the attention of press and an emerging fan base. Her first music video (MV), ‘My Days’, was unofficially released on YouTube in the spring of 2014, and went on to attract more than 1.5 million hits in China via Youku; Leah made several more MVs, filming in London, Hong Kong, Japan, Beijing, with Beats sponsoring a VR video for “May Rain”.

Leah already warrants some huge numbers with her debut album “Stone Café” released in April 2016, attracting a record of 400 million streams on the QQ digital platform within the first 3 weeks. The album was widely acclaimed in the Greater China regionLeah’s music soon attracted the interest of labels from overseas, and “Stone Café” was subsequently released by Universal Music in Japan, August 2016. With such big international numbers she started playing headline slots at the major music festivals in China, as well as the famous Clockenflap Festival in Hong Kong, Spring Wave Music and Art Festival in Taiwan, and Summer Sonic Tokyo in Japan.

Leah was invited to write the theme song of the movie “Soul Mate” and the song called “(It’s not a crime) It’s just what we do” was nominated for the “Best Original Film Song” at China’s biggest annual Film Festival awards, 53rd Golden Horse Awards and the 36th Hong Kong Film Award. As a guest performer, she performed the song during the Golden Horse Awards ceremony, in Taiwan

Leah is currently in the studio working on new songs, due for release later this year.
