Marina and the Diamonds says fans should be 'proud' of new pop direction

Marina and the Diamonds has admitted she believes fans should be ‘proud’ of her new pop reinvention.

The 26-year-old, who releases comeback single, ‘Primadonna,’ on Apr 22, has faced criticism from some fans for pursuing a more commercial sound with her new material, but Marina told Gigwise she feels her mainstream acceptance should be celebrated:

"I think the indie fanbase and my indie background should be proud that I was an artist selling my handmade records to Rough Trade for £2 a pop and i've been asked to work with Dr Luke - who's on the other side of the spectrum.

"I really want to grow as an artist, get out of my bedroom and do what I was frightened of - which was sharing my identity with other people."

The Welsh singer-songwriter, who kicks off her UK tour at London’s Tabernacle in May, releases her second album, ‘Electra Heart,’ on Apr 30.
