Maroon 5 break US chart record

Maroon 5 have broken a US chart record with their new single 'Payphone'.

The track managed to sell a massive 493,000 downloads in its first week - the highest ever first week single sales in the Billboard Hot 100 for a group.

The song features Wiz Khalifa and is set to feature on the band's upcoming new album 'Overexposed'.

The track beats the previous top first week seller the Black Eyed Peas, who had shifted 465,000 units of their song 'Boom Boom Pow' back in 2009.

As previously reported, Maroon 5 have described their forthcoming new album as both the most "diverse" and the "poppiest" record they've released.
