McFly wish they recorded One Direction's 'What Makes You Beautiful'

McFly admitted to being so impressed with One Direction's debut single, 'What Makes You Beautiful', that they wish it was their song.

Drummer Harry Judd told the Daily Star at the Summer Sundae festival in Leicester: “They’re young, like when we started, so it makes me feel old. But it’s a compliment to us if people think they sound like early McFly.

“I wish we had their new single for ourselves – it’s fresh.”

Singer Tom Fletcher agreed: “They’re a really likeable bunch of guys and they’ve got everything it takes to hit the big time.

“They’ve recorded a song I wrote for them – I just hope they use it.”

Bassist Dougie Poynter said: “Music goes full cycle so it’ll come back round for McFly, but the urban thing has made it hard for us to stay relevant. We don’t move with the trends.”

Fletcher added that McFly is at the early stages of writing new stuff and have plans to tour the UK next year.

X Factor boyband One Direction debut their music video for 'What Makes You Beautiful' on August 19.
