BURBERRY RELEASES LIMITED EDITION BOX SET OF ELTON JOHN VINYLS

London, 26th October 2016

Burberry has partnered with Elton John to release a limited edition vinyl LP box set of six of his classic albums.

The unique set of records selected by Elton, comprises six carefully remastered albums originally released between 1970 and 2001 and one album previously unreleased on vinyl.

Available exclusively to Burberry in a limited edition of 800, the collection of vinyl LPs is presented in a specially designed Burberry box, each individually numbered, flecked with gold glitter and embossed with Elton’s signature in gold lettering. The 180 gsm, 12-inch vinyl LPs include all the original artwork and sleeve notes. The albums were remastered from the original tapes by legendary engineer Bob Ludwig & the vinyl cut at the renowned Abbey Road Studios in London. The artwork has been painstakingly put together featuring the sleeves & components from Elton’s archive to stay as true as possible to the originals.

This partnership marks a long-standing relationship between Burberry and Elton, with Elton most recently appearing in the brand’s Billy Elliot inspired Festive campaign last year.

Burberry and Elton John are also united by their shared passion for supporting emerging British recording artists, by giving them a platform to showcase their work. Elton John champions new music via his Rocket Music management company as well as his regular Beats 1 show, The Rocket Hour. Burberry has helped to foster and discover new talent through its campaigns and Burberry Acoustic platform.

The box set will be available to purchase from November 2016 exclusively at Burberry stores across Asia, Europe, Canada and the US and at Burberry.com

Elton John said:

“I’m really thrilled to see these albums reintroduced in such stylish form. Choosing these 6 wasn’t easy; however I think they are a very good representation of my catalogue between 1970 and 2001. It’s been a pleasure as always to work with Burberry and in particular Christopher Bailey – a dear friend. Producing these albums was a real labour of love for everyone involved.”

THE FEATURED ALBUMS

Elton John: The earliest album in the box set, originally released in 1970, this was the first album to launch Elton John into the spotlight, with a tracklist including ‘Your Song’ and ‘Take Me To The Pilot’.

17-11-70: Elton’s first live album was named after the date on which it was recorded in front of an intimate audience at famed A&R Studios in New York, with his original band of piano, bass and drums, and was released in 1971. This became his fourth album to simultaneously appear in the Billboard Top 100 charts in the US – a feat that had not been accomplished by any artist since The Beatles.

Madman Across the Water: Released in 1971, and selected for this box set by Elton as one of his “favourite albums of all time”, it includes his classics ‘Tiny Dancer’ and ‘Levon’ as well as the epic ‘Indian Sunset’.

Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy: Released in 1975, this autobiographical record detailing the early days of Elton and Bernie Taupin’s song writing partnership, was primarily written in the music room aboard the final voyage of the ocean liner SS France from Southampton to New York. The album was the first by any artist to enter at No. 1 on the Billboard Charts in the US.

Too Low for Zero: Recorded on the Caribbean island of Montserrat and released in 1983, this was the first album in seven years to be completely comprised of songs written by Elton and lyricist Bernie Taupin. Also reuniting his 1970’s band, the tracklist includes ‘I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues’, ‘One More Arrow’, ‘I’m Still Standing’ and ‘Kiss the Bride’.

Songs From the West Coast: Previously unreleased on vinyl, this album was recorded in multiple studios across California and released in 2001. Featuring the hit singles ‘I Want Love’, ‘This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore’ and ‘Original Sin’, this is one of Elton’s favourite albums “all the way through, from start to finish”.
