PRAISE FOR 12 QUESTIONS:

‘The 21 tracks comprise songs and poems of pain and loss, hope and encouragement, spoken-word thoughtfulness and urgent raps - of big ideas and big tunes… here’s an epic, multi-level, multi- voice concept album, about the philosophical past, crushing present and metaphysical future’ - The Telegraph

‘An uplifting, rich and transporting listen…12 Questions makes you feel that, just by addressing these subjects against exciting music, the world becomes a less scary place’ - The Times

‘It comes as no surprise that an album by a producer renowned for sonic lushness, complexity and variety sounds glorious…this project grapples with the ills of modern society, getting stuck in with warm wit and a sharp, insistent bite’ - Sunday Times Culture

'There’s a mixtape energy in Smith’s relentless invention…the standout is Dave’s Children Of The Internet, a thrilling glimpse of Britain’s best rapper’s next steps’ - The Observer

World renowned producer, songwriter and musician Fraser T Smith has today revealed details of a brand-new Melé remix of Future Utopia’s track Million$Bill, taken from the recent album 12 Questions. The original version of the track features acclaimed British rapper Kojey Radical and Easy Life’s Murray Matravers.

Speaking about the Melé remix, Fraser says:

‘I started working with Melé on Kano’s 'New Banger’ from his Made In The Manor album. He’s one of the most exciting DJ’s / producers / remixers on the scene - he’s so eclectic. When he first played me the rough of ‘Million $ Bill’ it blew my mind. It’s such a fresh twist on the original, the way he’s worked with Kojey’s verses and Easy Life’s hook and gelled it all together with Latin beats and Prodigy esque synths - this is truly one for the ravers’.

Highly regarded for his remix and production work for the likes of Mabel, SG Lewis, Ray Blk and Kano, Wirral native Melé has previously released on Eats Everything’s Edible imprint, as well as Defected Records. A favourite of BBC Radio 1, Melé has also contributed to the station’s long-running Essential Mix series.

Speaking about working with Fraser, Melé adds:

‘I’ve worked with Fraser closely over the last few years and I first met him working on Kano’s album. When he announced his Future Utopia project, it was something I really wanted to be involved with. With this remix, I wanted to capture the feeling of 3AM in a massive warehouse club but still respect the amazing original vocal. I can’t wait to play it out sometime this year!’

Future Utopia’s recent album 12 Questions features an incredible array of guests including Stormzy, Dave, Kano, Ghetts, Bastille, Es Devlin, Katrin Fridriks, Simon Armitage, Arlo Parks, Alysia Harris and former Black Panther, Albert Woodfox. The album is based on a series of twelve universal, human and urgent questions, each of which is posed by Fraser to a different collaborator. The questions are born of Fraser’s own anxieties concerning topics such as faith, freedom, race, gender, wealth, equality and ecology.

The album has now been streamed more than 3.5 million times across Apple Music and Spotify and has seen a number of great playlist additions; New Music Daily, In My Room, Future Hits, Agenda, New Fire (Apple Music) and New Music Friday UK, AlternaRap, The Other List, Free Form, Concious and Jazz Rap (Spotify).

As a producer for some of music’s biggest names, Fraser T Smith has a remarkable track record. He has worked with the likes of Adele, for whom he co-wrote and produced the Grammy winning single Set Fire To The Rain (2011), as well as Stormzy, whose BRIT Award winning debut album Gang Signs & Prayer (2018) Fraser wrote on and produced. Fraser also contributed to Stormzy’s second album Heavy Is The Head (2019), reaching the number one spot on both the UK Official Singles and Albums Chart in January 2020. Fraser worked with Dave to co-produce his Mercury Prize winning debut album Psychodrama (2019) and accompanied Dave for an electrifying performance of his track Black at this year’s BRIT Awards. It is this catalogue of work that has seen Fraser become one of the most in demand creators in contemporary music today.

Melé’s remix of Future Utopia’s track Million$Bill is out now via Platoon/70Hz. Future Utopia’s new album 12 Questions is also out now.
