Meghan Trainor: 'My best friend told me I would be prettier if I lost 10 pounds'

'All About That Bass' sensation Meghan Trainor has revealed that her childhood best friend once told her that if she lost 10 pounds she would be prettier, and confessed that the comment has never left her mind.

The beauty opened up about body confidence for a new campaign for Newsround in the UK, called 'Being Me - A Newsround Special', and explained that she can't forget how upsetting it was to hear those words:

"I was in middle school, sixth grade and younger, and my best friend was a boy. He looked at me and said you'd be a lot prettier if you were 10 pounds lighter. I cried and felt horrible all day. I went home and told my mum I wasn't gonna eat dinner and she asked me why and I told her I got told if I was 10 pounds lighter I'd be prettier and I still think about it to this day."

"I've moved on from it and have grown because of it but it is still here in my brain. It affected me so much. He was even my best friend and even your best friends can say something that can hurt."

The campaign also features video interviews with actress Julianne Moore, Blue singer Simon Webbe and Olympian Louis Smith, and it will be shown later this month with the goal of boosting the confidence of young people.
