Meghan Trainor's music teacher: 'She sold herself with her talent'

A music teacher who taught 'All About That Bass' sensation Meghan Trainor has revealed how a family tragedy helped put her on the path to stardom.

Former NRBQ rocker turned music teacher Johnny Spampinato has revealed that before Trainor was born, her mother’s uncle, musician Robert LePalm, committed suicide. LePalm was also a member of NRBQ, so Trainor's mother Kelli struck up a friendship with Johnny to try and get to the bottom of why Robert chose to end his own life.

During an interview with Life & Style magazine, Spampinato explained that Trainor was naturally talented even as a youngster and would churn out pop songs by the dozen:

"Kelli called me and asked if I could give Meghan music lessons. Meghan would come over to my house and I had a little studio set up... She would write 10 pop songs a day, just pouring them out. By age 14, she had recorded her own material with a MAC computer and probably (online music creation studio) GarageBand."

"I introduced her to Big Al Anderson, who I replaced in NRBQ. He has platinum records on his walls and he's written for a lot of country artists, and he got Meghan a deal... I really didn't have to sell her. She sold herself with her talent."
