Metallica on course to beat Bruno Mars to US No.1 album

Metallica are odds-on to land this week's US No.1 album as they look set to top the Billboard 200 for the sixth time in their lengthy career.

The band's first album in eight years 'Hardwired...To Self Destruct' is expected to shift 300,000 equivalent album units in its first week on sale to reach No.1.

The metal titans' last album 'Death Magnetic', which was released in 2008, sold a total of 490,000 copies in its first week on sale. Traditional album sales of 'Hardwired...To Self Destruct' are expected to reach 280,000.

As a result, Bruno Mars' new effort '24K Magic' should land at No.2 on the Billboard 200, with sales estimated at around 200,000. Miranda Lambert’s 'The Weight of These Wings' is expected to reach No.3 with sales of around 145,000.
