Michael Bublé on hosting BRITs: 'It's about getting drunk with your fave celebs'

Singer Michael Bublé has opened up about being chosen as the new BRIT Awards host and confessed that he plans to have a good time on the night.

He sat down for an interview with Smooth’s Kate Garraway for Global’s Make Some Noise and explained that he's excited to be the new host, but admitted that he doesn't want to be up for a prize if he's hosting the ceremony as that would make him uncomfortable:

"Can I be completely frank about something? I’m not a big fan of hosting in a year when I’m up for stuff. I just think it kind of looks weird [...] There was one year when Drake was the host (of Canada's Juno Awards), he was nominated for six and he lost all six so it was kind of just like those “urgh” moments every time he’s up on stage going “and the winner is…not me again!”, it’s such a subjective thing winning awards, that’s not what it’s about. It’s about getting to hang out and get drunk with your favourite celebrities."

The crooner will release his highly anticipated new studio album, Nobody But Me, later this month and recently told Britain's Evening Standard newspaper that people in the industry told him he "was nuts" for producing it himself:

“There was a year-and-a-half of me not sleeping. I spent months with people telling me I was nuts for producing it myself. Previously, with a jazz standard, I would have gone in with a producer who would have put down the big band to a click track, then have me sing the song 13 or 14 times."

"Then he would have taken that and cut the vocals together. Listen, it was slick, it was beautiful, people really liked it. But I felt I could go into the room and do less - and by doing less it could be more.”
