Nathan Sykes on 1D's fame: 'They need to do what makes them happy rather than be 20% of a boyband'

Singer Nathan Sykes, formerly of The Wanted fame, has opened up about One Direction's career and confessed that it's important for any member of a boyband to take some time to focus on themselves as an individual.

The star told The Daily Mirror newspaper that the best advice he could give the 'Story Of My Life' heartthrobs is that they should pursue what truly makes them happy even if it takes them away from the group:

"I think their last album sounded brilliant. But when you're a percentage of a group, you've also just got to give yourself some time where you can be 100% for yourself. You've got to do the stuff that you always wanted to do and the stuff that you always wanted to do and have fun with it, rather than be 20% of a boyband."

Sykes, meanwhile, also admitted that he recently bumped into Harry Styles and the pair had a great chat:

"I was out with Harry in LA recently. We were both a bit merry, but we had one hell of an embrace. I never had a problem with any of the 1D boys and never got involved with the Twitter fights, it wasn't me. I think sometimes you can be a victim of hatred through association. I was like, 'I didn't say anything!'."
