Nathan Sykes on writing about Ariana Grande: 'As a songwriter it's only natural'

Solo star Nathan Sykes has opened up about writing a song that was inspired by his split from sensation Ariana Grande.

Speaking to MTV News about the song, Sykes explained that it's 'natural' to pen tracks that have been directly influenced by your own experiences so it shouldn't come as a surprise:

"The thing is, as a songwriter you draw from experiences in your life and that was an experience in my life so I think it's only natural as a songwriter you write about that. I think people are interested in if it's just one song because they're like, 'oh yeah, we know Ariana'!"

As previously reported, Sykes admitted that the track isn't at all negative or derogatory so Grande has nothing to worry about

"It’s not really that heartbreaking — it’s very emotional. It’s just a very nice breakup song. I’m one of those really annoying people who never holds grudges [against] anyone, because what’s the point? There’s no point. It’s really boring and it takes up so much energy — just draining. So it’s a nice breakup song, but really emotional."
