Nathan Sykes on "Famous": "It's got quite a dark undertone"

Singer-songwriter and musician Nathan Sykes has revealed that his music video for "Famous" has "a dark undertone"

He told People magazine that the track was inspired by a personal relationship that took a turn once his career with The Wanted came to a halt and he decided to use the volatile situation as subject matter for the song:

“This song is inspired by somebody who I was very close to, and after The Wanted took a break, they stopped talking to me, and that inspired me to ask the question: Will they call me when I’m famous?” Sykes, 23, said in the clip.

In the music video, which has now enjoyed over 3.3 million views on YouTube and can be seen below, Nathan Sykes plays a character on a film set who is doubting his love interest: “I then am asking her the question: if I was more famous, would she care about me. I think it’s got quite a dark undertone.”

He also recently told iHeartRadio about his motivation for writing the song: "'Famous' is asking a very simple question. What do I do to make you care about me as much as I care about you? And what extent do I have to go to for the love that I have for you to be reciprocated? Do I have to be famous?"
