Niall Horan up for Best Solo Breakout Award at iHeartRadio Music Awards

(For Niall Horan to win, vote here)

Niall Horan was nominated on January 10 this year for the Best Solo Breakout Award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards 2018, but there is one slightly awkward twist.

Two years after One Direction announced their hiatus, the popular British star is also up against his former bandmates, Louis TomlinsonHarry Styles and Liam Payne for the same award.

The categories and nominees for the award at the March 11 event is completely determined by online voting, which could prove slightly tricky for hardcore One Directioners.

Fans who are torn between having to pick between their favorite boyband members, have the option of voting for Camila Cabello, who is also nominated as the sole female artist in the category.

Horan's solo career to-date has been nothing short of hugely succesful. The former One Direction member released his highly anticipated solo effort "Flicker" on October 20 last year. It shot straight to No. 1 in the USA, entered the Billboard 200 Chart at No. 1, and topped the iTunes chart in an incredible 61 countries during the week of its release.

Horan also won New Artist of the Year at last year's American Music Awards [AMAs], beating fellow nominees Julia MichaelsPost MaloneJames Arthur and Rae Sremmurd.

"This Town", the album’s first single, was released on September 29 last year and sold more than three million track equivalent units globally.

The singer unveiled his follow-up track "Slow Hands" in May of last year. It went straight to No. 1 in 44 countries, amassing over 820 million combined streams worldwide during the month of its release.
