Nick Jonas: 'Being a Jonas brother hurts me getting roles in a lot of ways'

Singer and actor Nick Jonas has revealed that his past as a member of family band the Jonas Brothers has been a little detrimental to his career now that he's older and ready for more serious work.

During a new interview with Digital Spy, he confessed that managing being a recording and performing artist with an actor in the new show 'Kingdom' is challenging, but he puts his all into everything he does:

"I met with my team about, I'd say, nine months ago and said, 'Look, I wanna be the kind of artist that can do music and acting'. Both are a priority for me and both have been for my whole life. I looked for some roles and this part for a TV show called 'Kingdom' came up and I had to fight really hard for it."

Jonas went onto add that getting hired for the part on 'Kingdom' was tough because people knew him as a clean-cut member of the Jonas Brothers, so he's really grateful at being given a chance: "There was a lot of bias towards me; mostly to do with my previous exposure. I think being a Jonas in a lot of ways actually hurt me in getting the role but I got it, thankfully, and pushed myself emotionally and physically. It's been getting a really great reception and I'm just blown away by the reaction to the show."
