In 2020 Edwin Rosen self-released music for the first time. Without label, marketing, promo and without a big plan. Simply to process something personally experienced and let it out. Edwin himself invented the genre “neueneue deutsche welle” for his 80s-inspired new wave/post punk, which evokes associations to the likes of Joy Division, Boy Harsher and Molchat Doma. This genre neologism is the only information that can be found in his Spotify biography-the early 20-year-old musician from Germany prefers to let his music speak for itself instead of revealing too many details from his private life. Yet, the algorithm flushes the debut single into the lives of more and more people, who save it in ten thousands of private Spotify playlists, while his songs are used as the soundtrack to numerous videos created on TikTok and seem to capture the zeitgeist of the Corona era. The first release of 'Leichter//kälter' currently sits at over 1 million streams and counting.

Edwin now re releases 'Leichter//kälter' on the 22nd of January as a 2-track with a B-side called"SSS"via the Berlin indie label RRSINN Home of bands like AnnenMayKantereit and Giant Rooks. The accompanying video, which will also be released on the same day, was created under the direction of French director Nicolas Medy. Together with the already released songs 'Die Sonne in deinem Fenster' and '1119', the single 'Leichter//kälter' is the harbinger of a first EP and (hopefully) first live performances in 2021.

“When I first uploaded «leichter// kälter», I didn’t expect much and didn't really promote the song and therefore didn’t film a video either. But then I was contacted by the Parisian experimental filmmaker Nicolas Medy. Nicolas was a fan of the song and wanted to ask me if he could use my song in his upcoming short «Nuit de Chine». I agreed and in exchange he cut the lyric video for «leichter//kälter» from footage from his archive, since filming was made rather difficult through the ongoing pandemic. «J’ai le nez dans le guidon» is Nicolas‘ theme for the video. His recordings help to underline the feeling of nostalgia and melancholia that the song also conveys.” - Edwin Rosen
