Hot on the heels of the previous single ‘Low Lights and Throwback Tunes’, which garnered support from the likes of BBC 6Music’s Steve Lamacq and BBC Introducing London’s Jess Iszaat, Tottenham’s rising artist common goldfish is back with more new music. The producer is set to release his debut EP, which offers several unmissable indie bangers ideal for a summer soundtrack. ‘On the Sidelines’ is the first single on the EP, a track that combines elements of psychedelia, punk and indie. It's an infectious cocktail of old-meets-new sounds whose playful nature contrasts with the song’s deeper theme:

“I believe we’re all spending too much time in our own online worlds, being fed information by algorithms that can end up pushing us further apart. It’s becoming too easy to find like minded opinions, which can shelter us from different points of view. It is an upbeat call for people to come together through music and celebrate real life interactions.”

The upbeat and uplifting four-track self-titled EP, takes you on a journey through some of music’s golden eras. With its feel-good vibes and retro indie-dance sound, the EP combines the immediacy of now with an appreciation of years gone by.

Most of all, the EP captures the spirit of a psychedelic summer whilst firmly routing itself against the backdrop of London culture. With tracks that are soaked in sun drenched hooks and playful guitar riffs, the common goldfish project touches on bigger themes of loss of connectedness and increasing division online, albeit through an optimistic lens that highlights the importance of creative expression.

“It’s about letting go of the ego and unleashing your wild side. We shouldn’t take for granted the ability to spend time with our mates getting loose. For me life is about accumulating memories not materials. I want that to come across to anyone that listens and enjoys the music.”

common goldfish continues to explore the uncharted area between electronic and psychedelic rock that is equally as familiar as it is experimental. Centered around human connection, the music is designed to celebrate shared experiences, remind you of halcyon times, and inspire the moments that lead to new memories.
