Steve Carell thanks One Direction for giving him perfect family Christmas present

Steve Carell says getting One Direction to sign a photo for his daughter's Christmas scored him big brownie points with his family.

The actor featured on US TV show Saturday Night Live alongside the British-Irish group recently, with the Anchorman cast performing the song 'Afternoon Delight' alongside the boyband.

It seems the lads made an impact on the actors and Carell told Jay Leno's chat show that he managed to blag a signed photo for his daughter from the band.

He said: "I really scored big with my daughter. I was on SNL when Paul Rudd hosted and One Direction was the musical guest. I got One Direction to sign one of their photographs, the whole band...all the guys. The whole band signed the photo for my daughter. That was in the stocking so that was a big, big win."

Carell previously admitted that he was rather taken by the One Direction boys, saying:

"They are actually incredibly sweet guys and really talented. I was impressed by them. And actually, before I left SNL, that's the last thing I said. I told them all that to see young men who are so popular and successful yet so grounded and cool and nice...it's really great to see."
