One Direction on social media: 'Kids should be outside having fun in real life'

'Story Of My Life' hitmakers One Direction have expressed worry about their young fans who use the internet for long periods of time and rely more on social media than real life connections with others.

Heartthrob Liam Payne explained that he's concerned about the amount of time young people spend online because they should be making real life connections with other people or playing outside, like he did when he was growing up:

"When I think about it, I do start to worry about this whole social media thing. It does make me uncomfortable; kids should be out, living their lives, getting out and enjoying themselves."

Payne added to Top Of The Pops magazine that he still can't believe how famous One Direction have become and he's very grateful to be able to have such an "incredible" lifestyle:

"It's surreal and I don't think any of us have got our heads around it. It's amazing, it's crazy, it's like nothing we ever thought would happen, but it's also just weird. The performing, the writing, the albums - all of that is just more incredible than you could ever imagine."
