One Direction encourage public to audition for X Factor

One Direction have encouraged wannabe singers to audition for the X Factor.

The quintet initially appeared separately on the show in 2010 before being pieced together to form a boyband.

They finished third on the series behind Matt Cardle and Rebecca Ferguson, but they have since gone on to achieve worldwide fame.

The lads have now appeared in a new promotional clip to encourage viewers to audition and possibly replicate One Direction's X Factor success.

This year's series meanwhile will see Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole return as judges.

The Syco man recently said that he thought Cole came back to the show because of the success of the likes of One Direction:

"You know why she came back, we were having a conversation at my house and we were talking about the talent we had that final year in 2010 - One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd, Matt Cardle, we just had great people, and we just suddenly thought we want to do it all over again. And that was the incentive to do it because there are still great people in this country left."
