One Direction star Harry Styles has lavished praise on the band's fans.

The group have a fevered fanbase who idolise the five singers and the work that they produce.

The Daily Record has quoted Styles as saying that despite forming in 2010, the band are still taken aback by the levels of support shown by their devotees.

He said: "Any time there is an event or anything, they just surprise us and go above and beyond and it’s amazing that still happens to us and we’re just very, very lucky to have the fans that we have."

Liam Payne added: "There’s just no way to kind of comprehend it.

“You never imagine that anything gets to this level and we’re just so happy and so, so grateful for everything. The fans have made it all happen and it’s insane."

One Direction meanwhile are due to kick off the European leg of their Where We Are world stadium tour in Dublin tonight (May 23).
