One Direction say it's a "shame" The Wanted aren't around anymore to have Twitter spats with

One Direction have quipped that they are "gutted" about The Wanted's split because it means they can't argue with them on Twitter anymore.

The two bands have regularly sparred online and in interviews in recent times, with the likes of Louis Tomlinson and Tom Parker two of the main culprits.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1's Scott Mills, Tomlinson said that "back in the day" they "used to love" having Twitter battles, with the singer saying that it is a "shame" they can't really do it anymore with The Wanted, who have gone on an indefinite hiatus.

Niall Horan backed up his bandmate, saying that he is "gutted".

Liam Payne meanwhile commented on social networking websites in general, saying:

"Sometimes they can be horrible places, with the wrong people on there. You tend to notice the bad things but that's the thing, you have to waiver those out and notice the good things."
