Liam Payne celebrates social media milestone: 'Thanks for listening to my crap!'

One Direction heartthrob Liam Payne has finally reached 17 million followers on social networking site Twitter and posted a message of appreciation to his fans for supporting him and being interested in what he has to say.

Writing on the site earlier this afternoon (June 12), the 'Story Of My Life' singer explained that it's amazing to be able to reach so many people: "17m people listening to my crap ha ha thank you that's crazy hope I say some useful things aha :D."

Harry Styles currently has the most followers on Twitter with 20.9 and just behind with 18.7 million is Irish superstar Niall Horan. Payne is third, followed by Louis Tomlinson with 16.5 million users looking to him for updates and Zayn Malik, who uses the platform the least of all the guys, has a total of 12.7 million fans subscribed to his page.

Earlier this week, meanwhile, the frontman from The 1975 confirmed that he has been writing music with Niall Horan in the recording studio and explained that he was hand-picked by the boyband as someone they wanted to work with: "I went into the studio with them and we started to work on one track. They were asked to list who they wanted to work with on the next album, and we were one of the people they chose."
