Louis Tomlinson's Doncaster Rovers bid rejected: 'It's a black day for football'

One Direction heartthrob Louis Tomlinson recently put in a bid to purchase football club Doncaster Rovers and it has today been confirmed that his efforts were in vain

Tomlinson and businessman John Ryan's bid has now been rejected by the Football League, and Ryan has issued a statement about the sad news that explains his feelings. Ryan admitted that while the crowd-funder's goal amount of £2 million wasn't raised, they both had enough money to cover the purchase so he thinks the issue lies with the Football League itself:

"The crowd-funder didn't succeed and we're bitterly sorry about that. But the real problem has been with the Football League who have put out very onerous rules and regulations and Louis and I have been the first victims of it. Unless you have bagfuls of cash you're going to be turned down."

Mr. Ryan added: "I'm really cheesed off, as is Louis, with the way we've been treated by the Football League... It's a black day for me and it's a black day for football. If they want to kick out people who are trying to do the right thing, like Louis and I, then fine... Louis is a real upcoming guy who really wants success for his hometown club and we've been thrown out."

BBC Radio Sheffield that the club's current owners Terry Bramall and Dick Watson will continue to run it.
