Louis Tomlinson addresses Doncaster Rovers bid rejection: 'I'm gutted and was misled'

Earlier today it was confirmed that One Direction superstar Louis Tomlinson's bid to buy the Doncaster Rovers football club was rejected and he has now spoken out about the heart-breaking news.

Writing on Twitter this evening (July 17), the heartthrob explained that he is devastated but won't stop supporting the team: "I'm absolutely gutted the Doncaster Rovers deal is not going ahead. I am desperate for the club to be given the recognition it deserves."

"I was explicitly told that the deal to buy the club was not dependent on the money raised by Crowdfunding . Unfortunately I was misled. My passion for Doncaster Rovers remains as strong as ever, and I hope that I can still be involved with the club moving forward!"

He concluded by reassuring fans of the Doncaster Rovers that he will continue to help the team's success in any way that he can, adding: "And to all the Doncaster Rovers fans , I will do all in my power to help the club succeed. I really do love the club. #roverstillidie."

Tomlinson entered the bid with businessman John Ryan, who has also now released a statement on the rejection: "I'm really cheesed off, as is Louis, with the way we've been treated by the Football League... It's a black day for me and it's a black day for football. If they want to kick out people who are trying to do the right thing, like Louis and I, then fine... Louis is a real upcoming guy who really wants success for his hometown club and we've been thrown out."
