One Direction star Liam Payne has reached out to fans for helping them have "fantastic" 2014.

The group embarked on a massive world stadium tour this year and in November they unleashed new album 'FOUR'.

Speaking on Twitter overnight, Payne told fans that the boyband have had an excellent past twelve months.

He said: "Goodnight everyone what a fantastic year this has been thank you so much."

One Direction meanwhile will star in a US TV special that will air on Tuesday (December 23).

They have teamed up with network NBC to broadcast the show in the build-up to Christmas.
