Niall Horan on St Patrick's Day: 'The power that the Irish name carries around the world is unbelievable'

One Direction star has paid tribute to Ireland as the country celebrates St Patrick's Day.

The singer hails from Mullingar and he is never shy of promoting his Irish roots.

Speaking on Twitter today (March 17) in honour of St Patrick's Day, Horan said that Ireland punches above its weight in terms of international status.

He said: "Happy St. Patricks day to all my fellow paddys! you know the drill for the 17th of March, I'm at it all already! #ProudToBeIrish.

"For such a small country/ small population, the power that the Irish name carries around the world is unbelievable ! #pride (sic)."

To celebrate the day, Horan recently teamed up with iTunes to compile an Ireland-themed playlist.

Check out what tunes he picked here.
