Film director Gurinder Chadha has revealed that he and Zayn Malik have discussed working together.

The singer is currently a free agent after splitting from One Direction last month.

Speaking to the Mirror at the Asian Awards last week, Bend It Like Beckham supremo Chadha said that Malik is interested in taking up acting.

She said: "We’ve met and spoken. He trained as an actor first then became part of the band.

"So I think what he’ll be doing is staying true to his heart – and that’s all you can ever do."

The director added: "I don’t have a part in mind for Zayn just yet but hopefully in the future."

Malik quit One Direction in March in order to spend time out of the boyband fishbowl.
