1D's Trekstock fundraising campaign raises more than double the $100,000 goal

One Direction heartthrob Liam Payne has been raising money for Trekstock's fifth birthday and now that the campaign is over, the final figures has been revealed.

Trestock, which is a charity that aims to help young adults diagnosed with cancer, has been supported by the 1D members in the past, but this new project saw Payne and the other lads offering up the chance for one lucky fan to win a trip to London to meet the band backstage at the final leg of their On The Road Again 2015 world tour in exchange for a small donation.

The organisation was aiming for a goal of $100,000 (£65,000), but thanks to fans' generous financial gifts, the total figure raised was more than double that and Trekstock have ended up with an incredible $211,237 (£137,313).

A page on the donation site explains that the winner of this money-can't-buy opportunity will be selected and announced later next week on Tuesday, May 5. On April 17, Payne showed his appreciation for the people generous enough to make a donation and tweeted: "And thanks everyone donating at home for @trekstock! You guys are amazing. Amazing night so happy to raise so much for the best cause huge thank you to everyone you're all amazing."
