One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson has given Alton Towers crash victim Leah Washington some words of encouragement.

The 17-year-old had to get a leg amputated after being involved in an accident on the park's Smiler rollercoaster on June 2.

The girl is a big One Direction fan and she was due to see the band at the Capital FM Summertime Ball in London on Saturday (June 6).

This prompted an online campaign from One Direction fans to get the band to contact or meet the stricken teenager.

Whilst there has been no confirmation yet of the group meeting the woman in person, Louis Tomlinson did reach out on Twitter.

He wrote: "@leahwashy Thinking about you Leah & hoping you are home in South Yorkshire soon Xx."
