One Direction rep refuses to deny band will go on prolonged break

A rep for One Direction has refused to confirm or deny reports that the band will go on an extended break from 2016.

The Sun stated today (August 24) that the band will go on hiatus from March for at least a year.

They hope to pursue solo activities during this time off, with the quartet aiming to resume the band at a later date.

A rep for the hitmakers told BBC Newsbeat "no comment" when asked about the story.

One Direction are due to release their fifth album later this year.

However, the report suggests that they will not tour the record.

Under the proposal, One Direction's last gig - for the time being - will take place at the Sheffield Motorpoint Arena on October 31.

In March Zayn Malik left the group in order to live a more normal life.

The group have yet to comment on the split speculation on Twitter.
