Liam Payne thought he was "too old" to learn new music skills

Singer Liam Payne, of One Direction fame, has revealed that he worried he was "too old" to learn the guitar but was reassured after meeting Pharrell Williams.

During a new interview with Attitude magazine, the heartthrob explained that he was incredibly inspired by Williams because the superstar told him that he didn't learn to play the keyboard until his mid twenties:

"The person who has inspired me most is Pharrell Williams, who I worked with a while back.I got talking to his producer recently and asked him what Pharrell was like when he was younger, and he said to me that when he was my age he couldn't press a note on a keyboard. And that was amazing to me, because at 22 I thought I was too old to learn guitar."

Payne, meanwhile, also told the magazine that people calling him fat really bothered him: "I started drinking a lot and I began to get a bit tubbier. In fact, because of that I was getting fat jibes all the time, which hurt me...I'm not afraid to say I went through a pretty bad stage. And for that time in my life, that was perfect for me. That's what I wanted to do and so I enjoyed myself."
