One Direction star Harry Styles has admitted he doesn't know how lengthy the band's upcoming hiatus will be.

The group previously confirmed that they will take time off in 2016.

The quartet are expected to enjoy some downtime in addition to working on solo endeavours.

Speaking to Extra at the American Music Awards on Sunday (November 22), singer Styles said there is no definitive timescale on the break.

He said: "I don't know. I think, kind of, the point of it is not to put a cap on it, and then when we're all ready and want to so something, I'm sure we will."

Singer Liam Payne recently revealed his desire to work more on songwriting and publishing next year.

Bandmate Louis Tomlinson also expressed a desire to do more charity work, while Niall Horan wants to travel.
