One Direction daunted and inspired by Lady Gaga during X Factor performance

One Direction have revealed that although sharing a stage with Lady Gaga was daunting, it encouraged them to up their game and give the performance of their careers.

The boyband returned to The X Factor last night, November 13, to treat fans and the show's live audience to a rendition of their new single 'Gotta Be You' and explained backstage that they aspire to be as good as the 'Born This Way' pop icon:

"We are stepping it up for Lady GaGa as she always puts in an incredible performance. That’s the level you have to be at. Especially going back to X Factor we felt we had to show everyone what we could do a year on.”

When asked if they hoped to meet the superstar, member Niall Horan admitted that her security seemed "pretty tight" but they wanted to chat and had common ground as they worked with super-producer RedOne earlier in the year:

"Our dressing rooms are nearby but her security is pretty tight so five young lads might have trouble getting past them. We’ll have to get our own security so we can chat.”

“RedOne will be a talking point. He’s told us what she’s like to work with, how professional and hard working she is. And more importantly, that she’s a really nice girl.”
