One Direction fan competition axed

One Direction have been advised to discontinue inviting fans up onto the stage to join them after a Twitter hate campaign targeted three of their fans.

The band turned to Twitter last month to launch a competition in which the winner would get the chance to join their favourite band onstage during their 'Up All Night' tour.

Unfortunately, the winners were the target of a hate campaign on Twitter by other fans who didn't win.

Comments such as 'You're not even pretty, why did Harry choose you?' were tweeted by the sore losers to the winners, resulting in the competition being cut short.

A One Direction spokesperson stated: "The girls were brought up on stage for a warm-up show at the beginning of the tour as a try. It didn't work out from a practical point of view."
