One Direction's Liam Payne says US success "hasn't hit home yet"

One Direction star Liam Payne has admitted the boyband's success in the US doesn't quite seem real yet.

The former X Factor contestants today (March 21) achieved the remarkable feat of being the first British group ever to have their debut album land at No.1 in America.

Speaking on ITV's Daybreak this morning, Payne admitted that he didn't even think the band would get to the stage of releasing their album 'Up All Night' in the US - let alone it shooting to No.1. When asked how it feels to break America, he said:

"It still seems strange to say that, everything's happened this quickly. We didn't expect to be over here releasing an album. I don't think it's quite hit home yet."

He also spoke of his seeming luck at being picked by the X Factor judges to be part of the group - stating that it could have been "anyone". He added:

"It's just really surreal to think you were one of those five lucky people. Anyone could have been chosen that day."
