One Direction's Liam Payne recalls his worst gig

One Direction star Liam Payne has opened up on his least favourite gig of all time.

The 19-year-old told The Sun that his worst live concert experience came when he filled in for Blue's Lee Ryan at a Welsh festival when he was 16.

After a long trip from England, Payne only performed to ten people and the singer had decided to give up on music as a result.

Thankfully he didn't throw in the towel and auditioned for X Factor for a second time in 2010 before becoming a global music icon. Speaking about the Welsh show, Payne said:

"There's one awful gig that always sticks in my mind. I filled in for Lee Ryan doing The Sunshine Festival in Rhyl. It was raining. Me and my dad travelled from Wolverhampton. I played for ten people for £50. That had to be my worst gig - that was the last straw. I was like, 'I'm not doing this any more dad, I don't want to'."

He continued: "I'd have been turning 16. It was the day after my birthday. It was just terrible."
